Hungry?

Today I made sukiyaki for dinner and it turned out great! Perfect winter food. I wish I had taken a picture of it. The kids even liked it! I put cabbage, carrots, mushrooms, salmon, pork, little clams, gyoza, and noodles.

But I can put some pictures up of the matsuri food we saw yesterday.

The gyoza challenge plate with 100 gyoza or you could choose the GIANT gyoza. It makes me nauseous just looking at it. I had to put M in the picture for perspective. If you eat the whole thing, it's free.

  1. MMmmm, I LOVE sukiyaki! My friend who served a mish in Japan would make it for us all the time in college. So yes, I am hungry now, though not hungry enough for that giant gyoza! Yikes!

  2. Oh, the Elders used to love those food challenges...really gross. The okomes (right?) make me hungry though, and sukiyaki is my absolute favorite.

  3. When my mom showed me how to make Sukiyaki I was like, "What?! That's it?!" because it doesn't seem right that it should taste that good. Although when I was in Japan it was even better. Not sure what special thing they did, but I guess it makes sense that they can one up themselves. I've discovered a new love for Okonomiyaki. Every time I've made it it's too thick and chewy. We ate some at Shirokiya (special visiting chefs from Japan!)and I felt a need to make it awesome. I made some the next night and I did pretty well. Don't tell Jake I put dashi in the batter. He thinks everything Japanese tastes a little fishy.

  4. I think I would do the 100 small gyoza, it would be easier to track your progress.

  5. M is looking so cute and big. She is like a real girl. I can't believe it. And the food looks fun too.
