Polar Performance
The Mermaid had a great 2nd grade production of Polar animals. Her report was on the snowshoe hare. Actually quite interesting. And such super cute kids! Don't you love M's cast? She would have gotten just pink, but the school secretaries told her that their kids got two colors.

Movie Fan
My dad is a great fan of movies. I spent a lot of my summer vacations watching musicals, foreign films, and westerns. When all the other mormon kids were sitting out "The Graduate" junior year because of its R rating, I figured watching it one more time wasn't really going to make a difference in my spiritual progression.
My dad also taught me to watch Siskel and Ebert if I really wanted to learn about films. I know I didn't understand them that well, but I knew that they sure had a fun time doing their job. So it was with great pleasure that I saw this article on Roger Ebert in Esquire magazine. Read how the wordsmith still speaks without his voice.

3 Hour Tour
It felt a little like living on the edge, but we went on a 3 hour tour of Casco Bay. We didn't get to explore too much, but saw a lot of the bay around Portland. It was freezing, but beautiful. I would love to live on one of the smaller islands off the coast of Maine. There are lots of them (and the prices aren't too bad either if you're looking for a second home).

My Funny Valentine
I'm not a huge fan of Valentine's Day. I do love getting flowers, but when you live in the frozen north, it just feels weird to see color in February. Brown, white, and blue are the only colors in nature right now. Spring feels a long way off.
Luckily, Jesse's not so great at Valentine's Day either (or Ben and Yuki, or Enoch and Amy which was a relief since we were all together). The past two years we've had a special candle lit dinner for the girls. But this year we celebrated my mom's birthday. Which was special since it was her 7-0.
So this year there were no flowers or chocolates, or even cards (I meant it when I said we really blew it!). But I had my awesome husband helping me, centering me, reassuring me amidst the fun and chaos that comes with a big group of people, a couple of big events, and a trip to the er. I think it was the best Valentine's Day yet.

Recent Crafting
I've been finishing some projects this past month. Some of them began over 5 years ago, so it was time for them to come to an end.
This sweater is the second I've crocheted. Gwyn loves it and tells everyone that I made it. She's pretty cute.
This quilt has been in the works since G was in utero. I finished it in time for Miriam's baptism.
I also made a new primary bag for myself and a little tote for Mim. Gwyn's going to get the next one.
Miriam wants a neck warmer and I'd like to make another sweater since they make me feel super crafty. Since the baby sweaters are so much faster to make than the big kid ones, I think I'll make more for the babies.

Blah!
I'm sick. Unfortunately, I didn't figure it out until after doing a crazy Jillian Michaels circuit training workout. The kids loved it. I have no idea what they ate Friday and I don't really care. I'm pretty sure they were on the computer and watching movies all day. I was asleep in my bed for 18 hours or so.
I was lucky (ha!) to get sick on the weekend. J took the kids to dinner at the commons on Friday, to the children's museum on Saturday, and church on Sunday. I have been recuperating (which is kind of boring once you're done with the sleeping part).
Now we have to keep Jesse healthy. For one, he doesn't have the time for it. Second, he's not the best patient ever (See post on Mermaid's reaction to being sick).
